For Sale: Ron's Quilt from G'ma dated 1965Trapunto, appliqué, and embroidery are some of the techniques in this quilt. There is also one forty-nine patch square. It has the name "Mary" embroidered in one square and "Ron from G'ma" and "1965" in another. All these smaller squares surround a much larger medallion of a folk art rendition of a dancer. See if you can find: horses, keys, globe, book, birds, coin, clocks, boot, barn, house, sheet music, keyboard, cats, apples, house, home sweet home, glasses, bell, drums, butterfly, carriage, well, weathervanes, fish, flag, cars, bears, dancer, "1965," "Ron from G'ma" and "Mary." This quilt was just a quilt top up until a few years ago. The quilt top was probably created in 1965 by a grandmother for her grandson, Ron, but it was not quilted. Put in a box, it was kept until the seamstress either died or gave it away. It made its way into the hands of a quilter who finished it into a quilt for the purpose of putting into her church's silent auction to raise money. At the auction, in 2008, it was put on display, but it did not generate much interest. The current owner put down a ridiculously low bid just to get the auction going, but there was still no interest. She ended up winning the bid and the quilt. It is a beautiful quilt if you like folk art and it needs a home with some one who loves it. It is twin bed size with no hanging sleeve but one could easily be added. Proceeds go to St. John's Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas. USA.
