American Defense Service Medal
According
to Army Regulation No. 672-5-1, paragraph 4-18, the
American Defense Service Medal was "awarded to personnel for active duty
service from 8 September 1939 to 7 December 1941 for a period of twelve months
or longer."
Since Pete enlisted after 7 Dec
1941 on
28 Jan 1942, he did not qualify for the
American Defense Service Medal. It is unknown why it is included in his list of
Decorations and Awards in his Statement
of Military Service.
