Lloyd "Pete" Herbert
Hughes, Jr. was the son of Lloyd Herbert Hughes, Sr. and
Mildred
Mae RAINEY.
Born on 12 Jul 1921 in Alexandria, Rapides Parish, Louisiana, USA. Attended Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (later Texas A&M University) in 1939 and 1941. Joined the U.S. Army Air Forces. Earned the Medal of Honor for his actions on 1 Aug 1943 in Campina, Romania. Killed in action on 1 Aug 1943 in Campina, Romania. Posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor on 26 Feb 1944.

Field, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, USA.

Lloyd Herbert Hughes' Medal of Honor
is on loan
to the Corps of Cadets Center at
Texas A&M University and is currently on display there.
On 30 Mar 2009, a Medal of Honor ceremony was held where members of Hughes' family presented the Medal of Honor to the Corps of Cadets Center. The Texas A&M Corps of Cadets covered the story. |
