Source: Personal papers.
Texas A&M University Office of the President
College Station, Texas 77843
February 17, 1969
Mr. James M. Jordan 337 Waverly Drive Corpus Christi, Texas
Dear Mr. Jordan:
On March 1, 1969, Texas A&M University will honor its six Medal of Honor winners
at Spring Military Day festivities on the campus. As the half-brother of Lieutenant
Lloyd H. Hughes, a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, you are most cordially
invited to attend these activities. My assistant, Mr. Dick Bernard, has assured
me that in his phone call to you on February 14, you told him that you and at least
two of your three brothers will try to attend the ceremony. We certainly hope that
your plans work out.
The festivities will begin with a luncheon to be served on the campus for member
of the honored families. The Texas A&M Corps of Cadets will pass in review at 2:00
p.m. on the Main Drill Field, across from the Memorial Student Center. During this
Corps review, members of the families of the recipients of the Award will be escorted
to the residence hall which bears the honoree’s name and will be given a conducted
tour of this hall. These events will be followed by a coffee in one of the residence
halls. You should be able to depart the campus, if you so desire, not later than
4:00 p.m.
We suggest that you plan to meet with your escort at 11:30 a.m. at the main desk
of the Memorial Student Center.
It goes without saying that we are most desirous of your presence for these activities
at which we will recognize families of Texas A&M University’s sons who earned the
nation’s highest Medal for valor. Please respond to this request to me at your earliest
possible date.
Sincerely yours,
(signed) Earl Rudder President
