HEADQUARTERS 3525th Pilot Training Wing (ATC)
United States Air Force
Williams Air Force Base, Arizona
13 MAR 1964
Mr. James M. Jordan 337 Waverly Corpus Christi, Texas
Dear Mr. Jordan
It is my pleasure and an honor to inform you that "Hughes Hall" was officially
dedicated on February 5, 1964. This building houses the 3526th Pilot Training Squadron
which is one of the two squadrons responsible for the flying training at Williams
Air Force Base.
The inclosed (sic - enclosed) picture shows the plaque which is hung at the main entrance
to the building. The officers pictured are: (left) Lt Col John F. Thornell, Jr.,
Commander, 3526th Pilot Training Squadron, who was responsible for the downing of
23 German planes in World War II, and who directed the dedication ceremony; (right)
Chaplain Emilio Falcone, who read the dedication prayer.
We would like to obtain a photograph of Lieutenant Hughes to be displayed, together
with a copy of the citation which accompanied the Medal of Honor, inside "Hughes
Hall." If you have a photograph which you are willing to lend us, we will have our
Photo Lab duplicate it and return the original to you.
Please feel welcome to visit Williams Air Force Base and Hughes Hall whenever
you find it convenient.
Sincerely
(signed) WM. C. LINDLEY, JR. Colonel, USAF Command
