Ancestry

I trace my Jordan genealogy back to the 1850 US Census of Copiah County, Mississippi to my third great grandfather, William H. JORDAN (born about 1800 in Georgia) and his wife Frances PERRITT Jordan (born about 1801 in Georgia.) His parents may be Radford JORDAN (born in 1770 in Virginia) and his wife Elizabeth Middleton HOGG Jordan (born about 1783 in Georgia) but I do know for sure, yet. If you have any information on this line, I would love to hear from you. My genealogy records and their sources are located on RootsWeb.

When someone asks me where my family comes from, I used to say European Mutt, as in I can trace my genealogy to England, France, Germany, Ireland, Scotland and Switzerland. Now, I realize that all of my direct ancestors have been in the United States for seven generations. Two lines of those ancestors have been in Texas for five generations. So what is my ancestry? American. If someone gets picky and wants an hyphenated ancestry, I will answer Texan-American.
